“I want everyone to know: You’re in good hands here.”
HealthEast CyberKnife Care Coordinator Miyya
“I come in contact with every patient who calls or comes through the CyberKnife Center,” says Miyya. “And while patients are having their treatments, I spend time with their family members out in the waiting area. So I do get to know everyone — and it almost feels like they become a family member to me.” After three years as the care coordinator for CyberKnife, Miyya has a keen sensitivity for the service her center provides. “When a patient finishes treatments and gives you hugs and thanks for being part of their CyberKnife experience, well, that really tells me we’re doing our job right.”
The CyberKnife Radiosurgery System safely delivers precisely targeted radiation beams to cancerous and non-cancerous tumors. The HealthEast CyberKnife Center has treated more than 1,000 patients for tumors virtually anywhere in the body. Thanks to pinpoint precision and accuracy, CyberKnife can achieve a surgical-like outcome, without traditional surgery.
Just as important, Miyya notes, is the quality of the team that treats CyberKnife patients. “Our nurses and physicians are each wonderful in their own different ways. They give their all — people staying late to fully complete a patient’s care, creating friendships to support our patients. We’ll see people up to a half-dozen times over the space of a year, and when they come in for appointments, they ask for nurses or doctors by name — and as friends. I can tell: our patients’ experiences with the staff are always enjoyable.”
Miyya is a key personality in the center, since she sets the tone for patients upon their arrival. “My mother doesn’t speak English very well, and at times when I’ve taken her to a doctor, I really notice how receptionists can make us feel. It’s what drives me to be successful at my job: I want to create a welcome and friendly environment, letting everyone know right from the beginning: You’re in good hands here.”
